The campaign for IP protection of foreign companies will kick off

At the regular press conference of MOFCOM on August 31, spokesperson Gaofeng mentioned that MOFCOM was drafting the document targeting at IP protection of foreign-invested enterprises. The specific plan about related campaigns would be rolled out soon.

Gaofeng said, under the unified leadership and arrangement of the State Council, the Office of National Leading Group on Fight against IPR Infringement and Counterfeit worked with other departments to jointly launch the campaign on IP protection of those foreign companies, while taking into consideration the previous investigation and full consultation with foreign-invested enterprises in China.

Gaofeng said, “It is the first time to launch a special campaign for IP protection of foreign countries by the Chinese government.” He indicated that this special campaign will highlight three aspects: i) protection of trade secrets, which is an issue complained the most by the foreign enterprises in China. ii) protection of trademark exclusive rights. The “bad faith” filing of trademarks and “free riding of famous brands” will be targeted and handled. iii) governance of Internet-related infringement and piracy.
