Disney and Pixar are Being Accused of Plagiarising Designs for 'Elemental'

Disney and Pixar are being accused of plagiarising the character designs for their upcoming movie, Elemental.

Disney and Pixar are being accused of nabbing the designs for their new movie, Elemental. Online gaming portal Coolmath Games is alleging that the concept and characters for Elemental bear a striking resemblance to their game Fireboy and Watergirl.

Slated for June 2023 and directed by Peter Sohn, Elemental is set in a 'city where fire, water, land, & air residents live together.' The story follows a 'fiery young woman' and a 'go-with-the-flow guy' – figuratively and literally different – who discover they have much more in common than they thought.

The studio also released concept art for the film, which shows a guy made of water and a girl made of fire hanging out in what seems to be a marketplace.

Shortly after the artwork was released, Coolmath Games retweeted sketches for their characters Waterboy and Firegirl, and captioned it "yeah ok."

"y'all can't tell me at least ONE person on that staff never played FBWG on coolmath games dot com," said another tweet by the website.

To another tweet which described the concept of the movie, the website simply replied "familiar yet strange." From their tweets, it appears that Coolmath came up with the concept of Waterboy and Firegirl almost a year ago.

As of now, there has been no comment from Disney or Pixar.

This isn't the first time that the studios are being accused of copyright infringement. In 2021, Canadian student Damian Pourshian got the green-light to sue the studios for plagiarising his concept, which was later made into Inside Out.

Pourshian alleged that Disney and Pixar had ample access to his original concept – a 14-minute live action about a boy whose behaviour is dictated by five organs – when it was doing the rounds as a successful student film. He alleged that the studios later turned into their blockbuster film without giving him credit for the concept.
