New Partnerships and Friendship Forged at IP Week @ SG 2018

Organised annually by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), IP Week @ SG is Asia’s premier intellectual property (IP) conference for the innovation and IP, as well as business communities. Into its seventh edition, the 2-day event brought together over 3,500 attendees from over 40 countries to gain first-hand insights into IP commercialisation and winning strategies that help businesses grow and expand into global markets. This year boasted a sterling list of speakers from innovative companies such as Google, Alibaba, Didi Chuxing, ONE Championship, Citibank, 21st Century Fox and the likes.

For the first time ever, the heads of IP Offices from the United States, People’s Republic of China, Japan, as well as Singapore and Indonesia, shared the same stage and discussed the roles of IP Offices in today’s innovation-driven economy. These leaders examined how they may use their expertise, including big data and analytics, to enrich enterprises’ R&D decisions and help them grow through IP. Other plenaries covered emerging trends such as the advent and value of intangible assets, IP complexities surrounding blockchain technology, copyright in the digital world, as well as opportunities for financier, valuers, insurers in the increasingly intangible economy.


Back by popular demand, Connections @ the IP Market Place had close to 30 IP service providers providing complimentary advisory services to help enterprises commercialise their brands, technologies and IP for competitive edge so that they can internationalise.

At the opening ceremony of IP Week, Guest of Honour Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Finance and Second Minister for Education, honoured six innovative enterprises with the pre-eminent WIPO-IPOS IP awards. They have achieved outstanding growth in innovation, transformation and commercialisation through their IP. This year saw the inaugural Young Achievers Award being presented to the youngest award winners ever. Qanemate, which was founded by three teenagers between the ages of 12-14, was recognised and applauded for their enterprising spirit. A full list of the winners is appended below.
