Via Licensing said personal computer giant Lenovo entered into a multi-year agreement to participate in Via’s Long Term Evolution (LTE) Patent Pool.
“Lenovo joins as both a licensee and a licensor of the LTE Patent Pool, which offers licenses to the industry for use of patents essential to implementation of the LTE and LTE-Advanced standard,” said Via.
“We welcome Lenovo into the large and growing family of licensees and licensors in our LTE pool,” said Joe Siino, president of Via Licensing.
“By joining Via’s LTE Pool, Lenovo enjoys streamlined and cost-effective access to essential LTE and LTE-Advanced patents while also promoting a fair market for LTE-essential patents in China and throughout the world.”
Ira Blumberg, vice president, intellectual property, Lenovo, said: “We are delighted to join Via in expanding its leadership role in LTE licensing, particularly since it has been able to recognize and flexibly address unique market circumstances applicable to China and other emerging markets.
“Via’s fair, reasonable and transparent approach to global licensing was a key factor in our ability to reach agreement on terms that reflect the fair value of the LTE patented technologies used in mobile devices sold around the world.”
